What is Electronic Stability Control? Also, what is Advance-Trac Traction Control System?

I have them on my new SUV (2006 Jeep Liberty) and i was gonna read up on it in my manual but i lost the page and i cant find it...but anyway, what r they? This is my first car...so cut me some slack if this is a dumb question lol
